Course Requirements : Take the provided pretest, read the book “Pets in Therapy:Animal Assisted Activities in Health Care Facilities” by Abdil and Juppe and take the provided post test.

You may mail or fax your materials to DH Special Services. Once the materials are received and a passing grade is determined, a copy of your scanned certificate will be e-mailed to you with a hard copy mailed.

Course Content: This program introduces the importance and value of pets and the elderly. The program reviews all the basics needed to introduce an organized pet facilitated therapy program in long term care settings. Information to consider prior to organizing the program, systems to introduce for the program and means to manage the program are discussed. A variety of resources and specific forms are offered to assist in program development and management.
