The DH Special Services Independent study program offers these CC areas in 12 lessons, six lessons each for Part I and Part II.

Approved by the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals and applicable toward completing the requirements to be nationally certified through NCCAP.

The cost of this course includes the required textbook, ADC certification fees and National Exam Test Fee.
The student will need to submit a letter of experience at the end of the course.

Method of Learning

Each lesson consists of learning activities and practicum activities. The lessons are designed to be practical
and engage the student in meaningful learning experiences. Interview of residents, clients and staff; observation and analysis
of facility systems; Internet research;, implementation of groups, policies and procedures are some of the tasks involved
the course.  Course materials are shared via Google classroom.  Materials can also be mailed to the student.  There are short videos in the classroom which explain assignments.

Supervised Practicum:
The practicum experience must be completed at an approved site under an approved
Practicum Supervisor. Approved sites include:

– A licensed long term care facility, assisted living facility or medical day care center providing care and services to an elderly population. .

-The facility must have no outstanding, significant deficiencies in activities or quality of life on file within the past year.

-A currently approved site for CNA training and certification automatically qualifies as an accepted Practicum site.

The Practicum Supervisor can be the following:

-A qualified activity director
-A consultant to the activity department
-A department supervisor, with two years of experience and who has been employed by the Practicum Site for a minimum of one year.
– The student cannot be their own practicum supervisor.
