The lessons are designed to be practical\r\nand engage the student in meaningful learning experiences. Interview of residents, clients and staff; observation and analysis\r\nof facility systems; Internet research and video analysis; participation in class discussions and class bulletin board; implementation of groups, policies and procedures are some of the tasks involved the course.\r\n\r\nSupervised Practicum:\r\nThe practicum experience must be completed at an approved site under an approved\r\nPracticum Supervisor. Approved sites include:\r\n\r\n- A licensed long term care facility, assisted living facility or medical day care center providing care and services to an elderly population. .\r\n\r\n-The facility must have no outstanding, significant deficiencies in activities or quality of life on file within the past year.\r\n\r\n-A currently approved site for CNA training and certification automatically qualifies the facility as an accepted Practicum site.\r\n\r\nThe Practicum Supervisor can be the following:\r\n-A qualified activity director\r\n-A consultant to the activity department\r\n-A department supervisor, with two years of experience and who has been employed by the Practicum Site for a minimum of one year.\r\n- The student cannot be their own practicum supervisor\r\n\r\nSuccessful Completion Requirements\r\nThe student will receive a certificate for successful completion of\r\nPart I once the following requirements are met:\r\n- All learning activities and practicum work successfully completed.\r\n- Passing minimum grade of 75 on all tests.\r\n- Satisfactory practicum evaluation form completed by the practicum supervisor\r\n\r\nThe student has one year to complete each part of the course, meaning Part I or Part II.
