Course Content:  The activity professional functions within established models of care that prioritize person-centered care.  The activity practice is guided by recognized standards of practice, including those supported by the National Associations of Activity Professionals (NAAP).   Central to the role is protection of resident rights, including dignity, choice, self-determination, and meaningful engagement.  This course introduces basic regulatory information, professional expectations, and advocacy responsibilities that define the activity professional’s role in meeting regulations, resident rights and professional standards of practice.

Course Objectives:

-Participant will identify person-centered practice and explain how the activity professional can integrate into daily interactions.
-Participant will Identify professional standards of practice, supported by the National Association of Activity Professionals (NAAP), and apply them to ethical decision-making in long-term care.
-Participant will explain the activity professional’s responsibility in leading the resident council and protecting resident rights
