Primary Purpose of Position: Under the Director of Recreation & Memory Care Services, design and manage the day-to-day activities to ensure that activities programs for Nursing Homes and Memory Care Neighborhood are in accordance with all state mandatory and advisory regulations. As well as, direct and supervise the Recreation staff. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: The following statements reflect the general responsibilities and standards associated with the performance of this job. This description is not intended and shall not be interpreted as a comprehensive list of all tasks, duties, responsibilities, and skills required.  Trains, directs and supervises Recreation staff;  Recruit, select, separate, and evaluate employees according to established policies and procedures;  Use Eden principles of empowerment to ensure the completion of staff’s work and schedules;  In collaboration with Director of Recreation & Memory Care Services, develop and maintain: a. Written program objectives; b. Departmental policy and procedure manual; c. An organization plan for the department; d. Job descriptions for department staff;  Participates in the development and maintenance of organization-wide policies and procedures;  Ensures that all facets of the department’s operations and staff performance are HIPAA compliant;  Establish and maintain relationships with Residents and their Families/Sponsors;  Train staff on safety, ensure procedures are understood and followed and that dangerous equipment and/or supplies are properly identified labeled & secured. Ensure that products/materials meet all safety standards, in compliance with rules and protocols of OSHA;  Foster a desirable working environment for the Recreation Services Team;  Approve all contracts and invoices;  Maintain control over Department’s credit card use;  Establish vendor relationships & negotiate contracts;  Establish cost control procedures and recommendations for savings;  Participates in planning and budgeting for the Home, and plans and budgets for resident activities and Recreation staff educational resources;  Ensure that all Recreation Services users of Parker vehicles are appropriately licensed and that records of current licensure are provided to the Finance and HR Departments;  Establish and maintain purchasing and inventory controls;  Support the Home’s philosophy of quality and compassionate care;  Demonstrate a clear understanding of the Eden principles, its impact on the Homes by active role modeling and participation in Eden Leadership;  Lead the Recreation team in the development and implementation of initiatives to improve Resident satisfaction and collaborates with other Departments;  Assist the Recreation Coordinators to create a diverse resident activities calendar for each Home, Memory Care Neighborhood, that meets the residents’ physical, social, intellectual, spiritual, cultural, community-integrating, and Recreation needs;  Ensure that the Resident activity programs are in accordance with the Mandatory Regulations published by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services for licensure of Nursing Home, as applicable, and that programs for dementia care neighborhoods meet the DHSS requirements for certification as Special Care/Memory Care Units; EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:  B.A./B.S., in Recreation Therapy, Creative Arts Therapies, Music Therapy, Psychology, or related field required;  Certification by the National Certification Council of Activities Professionals (NCCAP) as an Activities Director (ADC), or Certification as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) preferred;  Minimum of two years activity implementation experience with geriatric population required, including experience with dementia required;  Minimum of one year therapeutic activity implementation in Assisted Living preferred;  Supervisory experience (staff and/or volunteers);  Commercial Drivers License (CDL) w/Passenger Endorsement required within six months of employment;  Certification as an Eden Associate preferred;
